History of the Sanitas Foundation

For more than 10 years, the Sanitas Foundation has promoted Inclusive Sport, defined as the joint practice of sport between people with and without disabilities. Through different projects that start from early childhood education, the goal is that everyone, regardless of their physical condition, can access and enjoy sport, shared leisure and social integration.

These are the projects in which the Sanitas Foundation is involved

Sanitas Foundation Chair for Inclusive Sports

Through an agreement with the Polytechnic University of Madrid, this chair has been established with aims to promote inclusive sport through education, and the objective of carrying out an academic and scientific analysis of the processes of inclusion in sport and, simultaneously, raising awareness and promoting activism among the intervening agents.

ISE program

Through an agreement with the Spanish Paralympic Committee, the Inclusive Sports in Education (ISE) program was created with the aim of giving visibility to the inclusive sports practice of people with disabilities in educational centers. The project is also very important for teachers, who use it as a tool to work with their students to raise awareness about disability.

Inclusive Sports Week

As a result of the Strategic Alliance, this event was born and has since become a reference, consisting of a combination of theoretical and practical activities which revolve around sport, disability and inclusion. In each of the 10 editions held to date, different sports and inclusive activities were created in the street in order to explain to the general public what inclusive sport is all about.

School’s Spanish Championship

In 2018, the Sanitas Foundation promoted the implementation of nine sports with an inclusive modality within the Autonomic Spanish Championships, which are disputed between the different regions, organized by the Higher Sports Council, in which school-age athletes from all over the country participate. A new success in which the different sports federations also collaborated.
